I am excited to have just joined the legendary local litter-picking group, Dorset Devils! Dorset Devils are a forever growing community group of like-minded, environmentally conscious local volunteers. Each member is passionate about cleaning up and removing any environmentally damaging waste from their immediate area!
The organisation arranges group litter-picking events, as well as encouraging and preparing it's voluntary members to pick independently. In case you couldn't guess form their name, these events cover the boroughs of Poole, Bournemouth Wimborne, and the whole of Dorset of course!
I will be meeting with Peter Ryan, Founder of Dorset Devils this week for my induction and safety training. I'll be kitted out in glorious high-vis and provided with everything I need to know to litter-pick safely and responsibly in my local streets, parks, and beaches. This includes the safe and proper disposal of any found needles along our journey.
With environmental issues and awareness increasingly covered in the news, many individuals are considering what help they can provide to their immediate world. Greta Thunberg and the rise of the Extinction Rebellion plays a tremendous part in this movement. Arguably creating a new area and an environmentally focused generation!
The present world we live in needs action to be taken now, the science has been done for us. Unfortunately there are still too many people out there, some I even know personally, who can't grasp the concept of basic recycling. But remember, no step is too small and every little bit helps. All you need to start is the desire to help and learn how you can help. None of us are perfect. I have been meaning to join this voluntary group of litter pickers and earth savers for ages... So, what have I been waiting for? It's never too late.
